Requirements
In order to become an apprentice, our union has a basic set of requirements that must be met. It can help tremendously to secure and organize the required documentation before the enrollment window, though you will not need your documentation ready to apply initially.
To create your account and initially apply, you will ONLY need the following:
Must be 18 years of age or older by July 1, 2025
Have a valid email address. If you do not have one, you can create one for free at Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.
A valid credit or debit card. See the FAQ's for more info.
Once you have created your account and initially applied, you will have until February 28th, 2025, to submit the following to complete your application:
Copy of Birth Certificate
Copy of Drivers License or Non-driver Identification
Copy of Social Security Card
Your educational background
Transcript(s) demonstrating graduation from high school OR
A letter from a guidance counselor stating you will graduate by July 1, 2025 along with high school transcript(s) OR
A GED with transcript(s) demonstrating 2 years of high school passed
Proof of your work history for the last 10 years or as long as you have been in the workforce, whichever is longer
Proof of work experience is letters from former employers, copies of pay stubs and/or copies of W2’s. Please do not provide us with more than one pay stub per job or W2 per job for each year worked. Letters from employers must be on company stationery and should state how long you had worked there and what type of work you did. If the work is in Construction or Ironwork, you will receive additional points. We do not accept resumes as work experience.

Program Benefits
Becoming an apprentice has many benefits, not least of which include:
Earn wages for on-the-job training (90% of training is on the job and 10% classroom)
Learn new skills that you can apply to various facets of your personal and professional life
If you are able to complete your apprenticeship and become a journeyperson, you will:
Enter the job market with the full support of the union
Be a skilled worker in a high demand position
Earn more over time as you improve your skills and gain experience

Application Fee: $20
Drug Screen (if Accepted): $90
Initiation Fee and Dues (if Accepted): $131
1st Year Books (approximate): $180
Tools (approximate): $175 - $300
Program acceptance
We evaluate all applicants based on a point system to determine eligibility for the apprenticeship program. The general criteria and associated point values are detailed below.
